The receptionist is an interactive interior element designed for entrances and receptions of public spaces. A sculptural clerk greeting whoever approaches it.
The receptionist derives its inspiration from shapes, colors and sounds of harbor environments and the welcoming atmosphere of hotel lobbies. The wooden pipe, made out of iron stained oak, is equipped with an ultrasonic motion sensor which together with a solenoid creates the movement needed to pump air from the paper bellows in to the whistles. The sound, movement and interactivity gives the pipe a humoristic and lifelike character.
The receptionist was created for the Clarion Hotel in Helsinki during a woodstudio course at Aalto University.
